Description

Just testing the facial rig. Its a continuation of my personal case study where I used pure biped elements. Even in the face not a single bone is used in this character since I'm not using bones yet but I'll also get to that later on maybe with another character. At the moment properly skinning the character is my priority. So I learned to use the "skin" modifier first before using the bones.

Facial rigging has a lot of advantages over my previous facial animation method where I used the "morpher" modifier, wherein you have to create a separated model for each facial expression. That was a very time consuming method. With facial rigging you only have to add additional skeleton objects to the face and fix it once. After it is done you can have total control on the facial expressions.

Though the morphing method has also some specific advantages over the facial rigging I think the benefits of facial rigging out-weighs that of the morphing. For instance there are things a morphing method can do that facial rigging cannot, like extreme or, should I say, exagerated cartoony expressions. However you can combine morphing method with the facial rigging where it is only needed for increased work efficiency. The idea is not to limit one's self to just one.
